Events overview

An event is something that changes a holding, cost basis, or amount included in the reports. It can be an ordinary transaction, such as a purchase or sale, but also a dividend, split, merger, or account transfer.

Events can be added from the events view and the security details page. Existing events can also be edited or deleted in both views. Transactions loaded through CSV import are shown together with manually registered events.

AksjeFiks processes events chronologically. If several events occur on the same day, their times determine the order. This can affect the holding available when a sale, split, transfer, or other event is processed.

Use the actual time when it is known. If the time is unavailable, it is especially important that events on the same date have the correct relative order.

When an older event is added or changed, AksjeFiks recalculates later holdings, FIFO positions, results, and yearly reports. Check subsequent events after making a change far back in the history.

Amount fields normally refer to the event’s total amount, not the price per share or unit. The selected amount is multiplied by the exchange rate to obtain a value in NOK.

For currencies other than NOK, AksjeFiks can retrieve rates from Norges Bank. If no rate is available for the selected date, such as on a weekend, the date of the previous banking day used for the rate is displayed. Check the automatic rate against your documentation, and disable automatic retrieval if another documented rate should be used.

Some events affect more than one security or account. Mergers, spinoffs, option exercises, and the exercise of subscription rights create calculated follow-up events for another security. An account transfer does not create a separate follow-up event, but dynamically moves the FIFO positions held in the source account at the transfer time.

A generated follow-up event may appear in the events list but is not stored as an independent manual transaction. If a generated event is incorrect, edit the original event. The follow-up event will then be recalculated using the new information.

After registering an event, check:

  • that the quantity and account are correct on the security details page
  • that the cost basis and open FIFO positions are correct
  • that any automatically generated events were assigned to the correct security
  • that dividends, withholding tax, and results appear in the correct year

AksjeFiks calculates from the registered information. Keep documentation from the bank, broker, or company so that the information can be checked later.
