Subscription rights

Subscription rights are created as a separate security type. Purchases, sales, and historical entries of subscription rights are registered through purchases and sales and entering an existing holding, respectively.

Use the Subscription event when subscription rights are exercised to subscribe for new shares. The event reduces the holding of subscription rights and automatically creates a purchase in the underlying share.

Both the subscription right and the underlying share must exist as securities. The right must have the type Subscription right, while the receiving security must be a share.

All events that created, purchased, sold, or previously used subscription rights must be registered before the new subscription. The dialog calculates the available rights from this history.

Subscription right, bank account, and underlying share

Section titled “Subscription right, bank account, and underlying share”

Select the subscription right being used, the account in which it is held, and the share being received. The generated share purchase is placed in the same account.

The date and time determine when the subscription rights are consumed and when the new shares are added. If there are other events on the same day, the sequence must agree with the documentation.

Enter the number of subscription rights used. The dialog shows the number available before the event and does not allow you to use more than the calculated holding.

The rights are taken from the oldest open positions first. Their remaining cost basis is transferred to the new shares; exercising the rights does not itself register a sale of them.

Enter the total number of shares received. Use the subscription terms to check the ratio between the rights used and the new shares.

Enter the total amount paid for the new shares, including fees that should form part of the cost basis. The amount applies to the entire subscription, not the subscription price per share.

Select the subscription currency and check the exchange rate. The dialog shows both the total amount paid in NOK and the calculated amount per new share.

One comment is stored with the subscription right and another with the automatically created share purchase. AksjeFiks suggests comments based on the selected securities, but they can be changed.

The cost basis in NOK of the automatically created share purchase consists of:

subscription payment in NOK + cost basis of the subscription rights used

If the subscription rights were purchased, their cost basis is therefore carried over to the shares. If the registered rights have no cost basis, only the subscription payment is transferred.

The generated share purchase appears in the event list but is not stored as a separate manual event. Edit the subscription event if the quantity, amount, account, or underlying share needs to be corrected.

Do not use Subscription for rights that were sold. Register them as an ordinary sale. Rights that expire worthless do not create new shares and should not be registered as a subscription. To close such a remaining holding in AksjeFiks, you can register a sale with a total amount of zero if that corresponds to the documentation.

Check that:

  • the correct number of subscription rights was used
  • the correct number of new shares was created in the correct account
  • the subscription amount and exchange rate are correct
  • the cost basis of the rights used was transferred
  • the automatically created share purchase has the correct date and comment
