Enter an existing holding

The Share entry event is used to enter a holding that already exists. It is intended for situations where the holding should start being tracked in AksjeFiks without being registered as a new purchase on the entry date.

Use an ordinary purchase when a new trade has been completed. A share entry is suitable when historical positions are transferred from another system or when the complete earlier transaction history cannot be registered.

A share entry creates a FIFO position. If the existing holding consists of several acquisitions with different dates or cost bases, enter each original position separately. Combining everything into one position loses the differences between the original FIFO lots.

For each position, you will normally need:

  • the original purchase date and, when relevant, purchase time
  • the quantity remaining in the position
  • the remaining cost basis
  • the account holding the position
  • any accumulated unused shielding deduction

Select the account holding the security and the security to which the position belongs. The event can be used for shares, funds, and subscription rights supported by the dialog.

This is the date on which the position is entered and starts being included in AksjeFiks’s ongoing calculations. It is not necessarily the date when the security was originally purchased.

Among other things, the date is used as the starting point for future yearly shielding calculations. Choose it based on where the earlier history ends and AksjeFiks should take over the calculation.

The original purchase date places the position correctly in the FIFO queue. Enter the date of the actual acquisition, even if it is long before the entry date.

The purchase time orders several positions with the same purchase date. If the actual time is unavailable, enter a time that gives the positions the correct relative order.

Enter the quantity remaining in the historical position on the entry date. If part of the original acquisition has already been sold, enter only the remaining quantity.

Enter the remaining cost basis for the quantity being added. The amount is entered in the selected currency and converted to NOK using the exchange rate in the dialog.

Do not enter the position’s market value. The cost basis is used when calculating future sales and shielding.

When automatic retrieval is enabled, the original purchase date is used as the exchange-rate date. Check the rate especially carefully if the NOK value comes from an earlier system where it has already been converted.

This field is displayed for applicable securities when shielding calculations are enabled. Enter the total accumulated and unused shielding deduction belonging to this specific position, expressed in NOK.

The amount should not be the current year’s shielding basis or an estimated future deduction. It should equal the unused amount carried forward from earlier years. Read more on the shielding deduction page.

Assume a holding of 150 shares consists of:

  • 100 shares purchased on an earlier date with a remaining cost basis of NOK 12,000
  • 50 shares purchased on a later date with a remaining cost basis of NOK 7,500

Register two separate share entries. On a later sale, AksjeFiks can process the older 100 shares before the newer 50 shares according to FIFO. A single entry of 150 shares would not preserve this separation.

Compare the registered holding with the documentation from the earlier system. Check the total quantity, cost basis, FIFO date, account, and accumulated shielding before adding subsequent events.
