Security

The security dialog is used both when a new security is added and when information about an existing security is edited.

The dialog opens when choosing New security or editing an existing security in the securities view. A security can also be edited from security details.

All securities that are part of a portfolio must be added. This can be done manually or through CSV import. If an imported row contains a security that cannot be identified, the security is created automatically. Not all information is always included in the import, so automatically created securities should be checked afterwards.

All securities must have a security type. The type determines which fields are shown, which events can be registered, and how the security is presented in different views. The following types are currently supported:

  • Stock
  • Fund
  • Option
  • Subscription right

If a security is created automatically during CSV import, the type may not always be identified correctly and should then be checked. Ordinary stocks are normally identified as stocks.

The name is shown in views and dialogs. It is also used during import to identify a security if identification by ISIN does not succeed.

ISIN (International Securities Identification Number) is a unique number for a security. In AksjeFiks, ISIN is mainly used to identify securities during CSV import. If a security is created automatically during CSV import, ISIN is added if the information exists in the CSV file.

Specifies which country the security belongs to. It is mainly used for filtering and for showing withholding tax totals per country.

Specifies the currency the security is usually traded in. The currency is used as the default currency when new events are added for the security.

A stock can have one of the following listing statuses:

  • Listed
  • Unlisted
  • Unofficial trading abroad
  • Unofficial trading in Norway

The choice mainly affects filtering and which options are shown in the year-end value dialog, because different listing statuses have different wealth valuation rules.

A fund can be an equity fund or an ETF (exchange-traded fund). For now, the fund type is used for display in the securities list and on the details page. It does not affect calculations; both equity funds and ETFs are currently handled as equity funds for tax purposes.

An option can be a call option or a put option. The type is used during option exercise to suggest whether the exercise should create a purchase or a sale of the underlying stock, and to calculate the option result.

Contract size is an optional field. The value is used as a starting point when an option is exercised, but can also be changed in the option exercise dialog.

An optional field where a comment about the security can be entered. For example, it can contain information about name changes.
